Common Travel Area : ウィキペディア英語版 | Common Travel Area
The Common Travel Area (CTA) is a travel zone that comprises Ireland, the United Kingdom, the Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey. With certain exceptions, the CTA's internal borders are subject to minimal or non-existent border controls and can normally be crossed by British and Irish citizens with minimal identity documents.〔(【引用サイトリンク】title=Common Travel Area between Ireland and the United Kingdom )〕 Since 1997, the Irish government has imposed systematic identity checks on air passengers coming from the United Kingdom and selective checks on sea passengers, and occasional checks on land crossings.〔 Despite the Common Travel Area's name, the CTA often imposes extra restrictions on travel by nationals from countries whose citizens require a visa to visit Ireland or the UK ("visa nationals").〔(FindLaw Travelling through the Common Travel Area )〕 For example, while a visa national travelling to France with a French visa would not ordinarily need a UK transit visa if transiting through a UK airport on the way to France, the opposite is the case for "visa nationals" transiting through the UK to Ireland.〔(FindLaw Travelling through the Common Travel Area )〕 For "visa nationals" who cannot travel directly to Ireland because they need to take connecting flights elsewhere, it is likely to be more convenient to transit through a country other than the UK in order to avoid a requirement for an UK transit visa which would be in addition to the Irish visa they would require in any event.〔(FindLaw Travelling through the Common Travel Area )〕 The maintenance of the CTA involves considerable co-operation on immigration matters between the British and the Irish authorities. ==History==
